I guess the reason I chose this first photo to share is that it candidly captures the energy and spirit of LBKM’s Community and Partnerships Committee (though missing Sufina Adam in the shot). Led by Ridhwan Mohd Basor, who first broached the idea of me joining as a volunteer, it’s a team that embodies purpose and good faith. I may not be a LBKM beneficiary, but as long as the cause resonates with me, it’s kinda hard to say no. So I said a resounding yes to contributing in ways that align with my skills and capacity.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was the guest of honour, and we were treated to an Angklung ensemble that impressed me (and geeked me out a little, yes, I’m a former band member). The instructor, calm and composed, led 700+ audience members to play a full tune with the band. Very authentic, very demure, seeing everyone hold their Angklung, waiting patiently to play their note at the right beat. But I digress.
LBKM Lembaga Biasiswa Kenangan Maulud (PMBM Scholarship Fund Board) marked its 60th anniversary, serendipitously in the same year as SG60, with PM Wong joking about how both LBKM and Singapore have their 4th President and 4th PM this year. The event was also a great chance to bump into familiar faces; always a highlight.
Congratulations again to Dr Syed Harun Alhabsyi, whom I had the privilege of engaging for our first RICE Dialogue on processing grief, and to LBKM’s ED, Sugyanto Suryono, for always being candid in our conversations. Continue the great work with steadfastness, patience, and a spirit of Ihsan.
